Self-guided hiking weekend at La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park.
The most spectacular volcanoes of the Natural Park. Walking ancient lava flows through medieval trails. Up to 14 volcanoes: Croscat, Santa Margarita, Montsacopa, Montolivet… D’en Jordà beech forest: a forest where you must get lost at least once in your life.

Detailed Itinerary: 1st day: Arrival at Olot , accommodation at Hotel Borrell.

2nd day: The starting point it’s at Itinerànnia map signposting, at les Mores bridge in Olot. Following the old medieval path that linked Olot with Santa Pau village, we’ll walk up until the highest part of Batet de la Serra basaltic plateau. Rocky trails and fields surrounded by dry stone walls will be with us on the first part of the walk. We’ll see Croscat and Santa Margarida volcanoes immediately. At Croscat volcano we’ll see the inside because there is an old quarry of volcanic rocks. At Santa Margarida, we will walk up to the top and we’ll enter the crater where there is an Romanesque origin chapel. Coming back to Olot, we’ll go through d’en Jordà beech forest, where we’ll enjoy the silence and verdure at unique place in the world. Following the lava flow of Croscat volcano, we’ll be closer to the end of the walk. The views of the city of Olot with her three volcanoes watching for her and the Pyreenes at the background will be a great postcard to finish a nice hiking journey.

3rd day: The starting point will be the old train station that joined the cities of Olot and Girona. Nowadays the old train track it’s a greenway for hiking and cycling. We’ll follow it for a while enjoying the landscape that bring us back to the past. After this we’ll cross the Fluvià river and we’ll walk up to one of the viewpoint closest to Olot, but one of more unknown as well. We’ll have to look for Montolivet crater through an oak forest and chestnut forest with a lot of holly. We’ll cross the woods to get into the streets of Olot. The next goal will be walk up to Montsacopa volcano. The views are 360º: walking around the crater we’ll look at the landscape. From this point we’ll see the Canigo mountain, Alta Garrotxa, the volcanic zone and all the city of Olot. We’ll finish the hike walking on the streets at the center of Olot.
