Asturias at its best in Redes!

About the destination

Redes is a Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve located in Asturias. The area offers a wide variety of landscapes such as glacials, karst landforms, large pastures, hills and lush woodlands.

The power of the rivers has sculpted open valleys and impressive limestone gorges, like the Alba river and Arrudos gorges. The Park is also home to two of the largest reservoirs in Asturias, which supply water to a large part of central Asturias.

Redes also stands out for its extremely steep terrain and extensive beech and native oak tree forests. It has the largest area of woodland in Asturias, favourite for the Cantabrian Brown Bear or birds like the golden eagle or the Egyptian vulture. Human settlements have integrated into the natural environment through traditional activities that respect the environment, creating a rich ethnographic and cultural heritage.

Ecotourism experiences

Redes is a fantastic ecoturismo destination to learn about the Asturian way of living and delve into the lush natural world. You can become a beekeeper for a day by putting on your beekeeper’s outfit to go to the apiary and learn about the world of pollinators with a real beekeeper. You will see with your own eyes how the bees live, organise themselves and work to create their honey, as well as the problems they are currently suffering and the impact they have on the world we live in.

Also, you can join a guided hiking route over the Puente D’Arcu. During this route, you will learn the traditional uses of the land and how the landscape has been changing to what we are seeing today. You will stop to see the mediaeval bridge of Puente D’Arcu and the facilities of Güerta-school, an agroecological farm in Aturian.
