Learn how to weave a “jarapa” (rug)

Located in the Northeastern area of the Alpujarra of Granada at 1290 metres above sea level, we can find the town of Bubión in the Ravine of Poqueira from which you can enjoy its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra Nevada at the same time.

Right in the core of the village it is placed the weaving workshop Hilacar where “jarapas” are manufactured. These traditional weaves are characterized by their wide range of colours and also for being the result after centuries of craftsmanship. In this way a variety of pieces with different purposes such as tapestries, rugs, curtains, cushions, etc. have been produced in looms of more than two hundred years.

The workshop was conceived with the honourable intention of sharing the culture and heritage characteristic of those professions and craft skills that were a huge part of our past and are now in disappearing.
