About the destination
Menorca is a Mediterranean paradise and a Biosphere Reserve since 1993. The south of the island is known for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Whereas the north is all about rugged coves, reddish sand and a sort of lunar-feeling landscape. One of the most distinctive ecotourism features of the island is that the entire coastline is walkable by the Camí de Cavalls, a historic trail from the 18th century converted into GR (long-distance walking route).
Inland, the landscape is the result of the balance between traditional uses of the land, geological landmarks and wilderness. The astonishing ravines and wetlands are home to many types of wildlife, making it an ideal spot for bird lovers. Menorca is also a Starlight destination and reserve for its dark clear skies at night, perfect for stargazing and astrophotography. It is also an island of ancestral significance thanks to its Taulas, an impressive collection of megalithic stone monuments of the Talaiolic people that resembles a table.
Ecotourism experiences
The Island of Menorca has an important cheese-making tradition of more than 100 years that you can discover during your visit to an authentic country house in the Biosphere Reserve. Your local hosts will invite you to join in the preparation of the delicious and unique artisan cheese of Menorca, using hand-made techniques and local and pure ingredients. In addition, you will have the opportunity to visit an authentic farm with its different farm houses and museums.
Menorca is also a fantastic destination to immerse yourself in ecotourism activities in the sea such as snorkelling with a guided tour in the Marine Biosphere of Isla del Aire; but also inland with a guided walking route to learn about the geography of the island through the most rural and unknown side of Menorca.
