Sierra Nevada

High mountain landscape (glacial cirques, ridges, lagoons), the southern-most deciduous forests in the Peninsula, abundant  endemic flora and fauna, the largest populations of Spanish ibex and golden eagle, a great historical-cultural legacy.

It is a mountain range of superlatives. It is home to the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula (Mulhacen, 3,482 m), boasts the most exclusive and varied Mediterranean flora in the whole of Europe, and is composed of a series of peaks carved out by Europe’s most southerly glaciers. Moreover, hidden away in its midst lies La Alpujarra, one of the most popular But it also hides one of the most popular Spanish regions for travellers, attracted by its combination of unique architecture and rural and agrarian culture, which is largely a legacy of the Moorish Andalusian culture of the Middle Ages.

Sierra Nevada has 80 endemic flora species as well as a wide variety of peninsular flora. Such varied vegetation and environmental conditions inevitably translate into an equally diverse and original invertebrate fauna, boasting over 300 endemic species.
