Sobrarbe-Pirineos Geopark

The “Sobrarbe-Pirineos Global UNESCOGeopark” sits at the heart of the southern slopes of the Pyrenees. Time spent in the Sobrarbe Geopark is time spent enjoying, observing and learning about the natural world that surrounds and protects us. It also helps us remember our place within the environment. Written in the rock strata in every corner of Sobrarbe you will find pieces from the jig-saw puzzle of earth’s history. And alongside a wealth of geology there is great cultural and ecological heritage to be discovered.

Over half of Sobrabe’s 2200 square Kms have been legally declared a protected zone, with particular emphasis on the Monte Perdido glaciers, the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park, the Guara Sierra and Canyons Natural Park and, especially, the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, declared a world heritage site and Human Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Thirty self- guided routes give you access to the Geopark along the Geo Routes footpath network allowing you to fully enjoy and discover it. There are thirteen marked mountain bike trails with geological commentary panels and even roadside Geo Routes with easily accessible information at points of geological interest along the way.
