Villuercas, Ibores, Jara: rocks, life and stars

About the destination

The Villuercas Ibores Jara is a Geopark located in Cáceres, Extremadura. It is a set of mountains and valleys in the shape of an accordion with the best forests of Pyrenean oaks and gorges with incredible geological remains from millions of years ago. The hills are also a mosaic of olive, chestnut, peach, cork oak and holm oak groves that alternate in the landscape thanks to the peculiar geomorphology of the mountains.

Ecotourism experiences

The Villuercas, Ibores, Jara Geopark, is a perfect destination to immerse yourself in a stargazing experience with a Starlight-certified guide. When night falls, you will go to an open-wide esplanade to learn to guide yourself with the stars and identify the main constellations depending on the time of year. In addition, you will delve into the exciting origin of the Universe and as a souvenir, you will be able to take with you a breathtaking picture of the starry skies of the Geopark.

The destination is also perfect for guided walking geo-routes. We recommend the one over the valley of Guadarranque, where together with your host you will learn about the unique wildlife and the geo-features of the geopark. You will understand how geologists read the past in the fossils and rocks that you are seeing today!
